How to make a blowout last until day three

How to make a blowout last until day three

There are few feelings like leaving the salon, or your own bathroom, with a perfect blowout. And few disappointments like waking up two days later to flat roots and a crown that has given up. A blowout can last longer than that. It mostly comes down to protecting the roots.

Why blowouts fall

Two things end a blowout. Oil moving down from your scalp weighs down the roots and takes the volume with it. And moisture, from humidity, steam or sweat, loosens the shape you dried in.

On day one

  • Dry your roots completely. Any dampness left at the scalp brings back its natural shape.
  • Finish with cool air. A cool blast at the end helps set the shape.
  • Keep heavy products low. Oils and creams belong on the ends, never at the roots.

At night

  • Loosely up. A loose, high bun or a soft clip keeps weight off the roots while you sleep. Avoid tight elastics that leave dents.
  • A smooth pillowcase. Less friction means less frizz in the morning.

On day two

  1. Refresh before it looks oily. A little dry shampoo mist on the roots in the morning absorbs oil before it shows.
  2. Lift with your fingertips. Massage it in at the crown and along your part, which brings volume back too.
  3. Keep your hands out of it. Every touch moves oil down from the roots.
  4. Stay away from steam. A shower cap in the shower, and a moment for the bathroom to clear before you dry off.
Protect the roots, and the rest of the blowout takes care of itself.

On day three

Refresh the roots once more if you need to, smooth the ends, and plan your next wash. Dry shampoo is a bridge, not a destination.

Our dry shampoo mist, Between-Wash Hair Reset, helps absorb excess oil at the roots, revives flat-looking roots and leaves no white residue, so your blowout still looks and feels like hair. For the ends, Softness Mist, our keratin leave-in mist, smooths and adds shine without touching the roots.
